Areas of Specialty
Trauma, PTSD and CPTSD
Trauma often strips from us our senses of safety, stability, and security. It can create or add to anxiety, depression, dissociation, chronic pain, sleep disturbances, and a deep loss of trust in ourselves and/or others. It takes courage and time to heal. I offer a trauma-informed, person-centred, integrative approach as I walk with you in your self-paced journey. My approach is trauma-informed, and incorporates individualized evidence-based therapeutic modalities.
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a highly researched and structured therapy that utilizes bilateral stimulation to help process memories, body sensations, and/or emotions. I have my EMDR Basic Training (EMDRIA approved) and my EMDR for Youth and Children certificates. While it is often utilized to help heal trauma, PTSD, and CPTSD, it can also help with anxiety, depression, chronic pain and other more. I offer sessions both online and in-person.
Neurodiversity
Living in a neuro-typically-designed world can be like constantly wearing shoes that don't fit. But you are not the problem; neurodiversity is a natural difference in the way brains function. Some types of neurodiversity include ADHD, autism, and dyslexia. I try to support people in finding the balance between existing in the world and finding space to be the authentic and amazing you.
2SLGBTQI+ and other diverse communities
2SLGBTQI+ is an evolving acronym for two-spirit, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, and additional people who identify as part of sexual and gender diverse communities. In addition to offering a safe and nonjudgmental environment for members of these communities, I am knowledgeable and experienced in working with nonmonogamous, sex positive, kink and other nontraditional communities.
Life Transitions and Existential Questions
Whether large or small, change can be difficult and present us with existential questions we struggle to answer. Often, these questions occur during times such as life transitions, age milestones, grief, relationship conflicts or burnout. While I enjoy working with all populations, I hope to create a safe space for men, middle agers, and elders to explore these questions in an open and compassionate way.
Couples and Families
Communication is one of the most important skills we need to navigate the relationships in our lives, yet it is often an area where we feel confused and at a loss. Couples and/or family counselling often focuses on building communication skills, practicing these skills, and repairing past hurts. My approach is to listen and co-create strategies with you that will address you and your family's specific needs.
